Dr. Paul grew up on a farm full of animals that backed onto Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas. His love of animals is a family affair as he remembers his father keenly observing animal behaviour. He had two uncles and and an older brother who became veterinarians before he followed in their footsteps. He graduated in 1984 and worked in a mixed animal practice as did his wife Barb. They took up residence near Gananoque in1987 and began raising their family. Dr. Paul now focuses on companion animals and is especially interested in behaviour, birds, pocket pets and exotics. He spends his time away from the clinic keeping up to his kids busy sports schedules. In his free time he enjoys flying small planes, playing hockey and running.
Dr. Barb grew up in Thornhill with 2 brothers, a sister and an assortment of pets. She knew she wanted to be a veterinarian ever since she was a tot. She graduated in 1984 from the Ontario Veterinary College where she also met her future husband. They came to the Gananoque area in 1987 where she lives with her husband and 4 children Joesph, Bryce, Kristin and Danae. She loves to cross country ski with their Standard Poodle Cheena, horseback rides regularily, and paddles in the summer. Dr. Barb has a strong interest in performing surgery and ophthalmology. Dr. Barb & Dr. Paul have also spent time in Africa, Haiti and El Salvador performing missionary work. Dr. Barb has a passion for fundraising for The Farley Foundation. This organization provides financial aid for pet care for financially challenged individuals. Dr. Barb and Dr. Paul's home is filled with an assortment of pets. There are many nights a sick pet comes home with them to recuperate beside the woodstove!
Dr. Kellie joined us in Spring 2010 after graduating from Atlantic Veterinary College. Prior to attending Vet School Dr. Kellie did her Undergradate in Life Science at Queen's University. With Vet school calling she applied to Melbourne University in Australia where she did her first year of Vet school among the kangaroos and koala bears!
Born and raised in Brockville she grew up with a special canine Labrador sister named Ebonie. Dr. Kellie can often be found in the clinic giving cats 'kitty love' or playing on the floor with the puppies. She has a great love and compassion for pets and pours her heart into her cases.
She and her cat Marlie (the snuggle bug), Busy (who lives up to her name) and Maeby her husky cross who found her forever home with her through the OSPCA make their home in Brockville. She fills her spare time with her hobby of music, reading and is our resident movie critic.
Lori's love of horses and beloved Toby The Dog attracted her to the animal health field as a child. She was raised in Rockport and graduated from Seneca College in 1986. Lori has worked as a Veterinary Technician and now as a Manager. She is pleased to have been with Island City Animal Hospital since we opened the doors and enjoys the connection people have with their pets. It is easy to come to work every day when you have found something you love doing.
Lori & her daughter Faith share their home with their best friend, an active border collie Oz. Her spare time is filled with running, enjoying the river, travelling and her hobby of photography.
When Jo-Anne was a little girl all of her pets started out life as strays but came to stay! Working with pets was a natural career for her.
She was born & raised in Brockville where she met her husband Barry. Jo-Anne graduated from St. Lawrence College in 1993 and has worked in the Brockville area ever since. Jo-Anne brought her skills to our team in 2007. She loves her job and always takes extra time to make sure every question you might have is answered.
Jo-Anne, Barry and their daughters Rachel and Tori live in Brockville. She enjoys boating, skiing and various other family time activities. Jo-Anne can be found on the volleyball court where her nickname is 'The Squirrel'. Jo-Anne has counter cruising Lab named Drake, Oscar the rabbit and Ella the Feline Queen of the household.
Tanya brightens our clinic with her humour and provides wonderful nursing care for your pets. She can be found answering all of your questions at the front desk or looking after your pets in their appointment.
Tanya grew up in Sault Saint Marie and graduated from Ridgetown College in 1998. She spent her childhood in love with horses and competing in equestrian events.
Favourite thing about her job: she loves the pet parents and providing excellent nursing care to our sick patients.
Tanya, Ben and children Keiko and Mak make their home in Spencerville. They also work with Big Brothers and Sisters in their community. Rescue cats Lucie and Emmett round out the family. Life outside of work is spent with her children at hockey, gymnastics, and playing in the pool. Tanya is our resident Sheltie fancier.
Brooke grew up locally and attended St. Lawrence College after spending time with us during her High School Co-op Placement. She started working with us in 2017. She brings her kind attitude and wonderful skills in caring for pets to our team. Brooke is go to girl for dental radiology. Her favourite thing to do at work is to help our patients and their parents.
Brooke and her dachshund Louie make their home in Brockville. She is known as the Queen of Hallowe’en and enjoys fishing, hiking and volleyball.
Vari brought her breadth of knowledge to our team in 2017. She is a diverse member of our team who helps with all aspects of your pet’s care from appointments to surgery.
Vari’s introduction to animal care came in her early days with showing horses. She began working in vet clinics and a career was born.
Her favourite thing about her job is discussing pet care with clients and working in surgery. She helps us tremendous with the care and handling of birds.
Vari and her husband Richard make their home in the Toledo area. In her spare time Vari spends time walking with her various canine charges, perfecting her art in equestrian, and reading.
Alyssa was born and raised in the Brockville area and has many childhood memories of being under the careful supervision of Tippy The Wonder Cat. With the guidance of her family, Alyssa enrolled in St Lawrence College in the Veterinary Assistant Program and graduated in August 2009.
Alyssa brought her bright, sunny attitude to our clinic after graduation. Her favourite part of her job is being part of the healing process for sick pets and giving them comfort while they are in the clinic. She enjoys seeing pets reunited with their families after a stay in the hospital. Her attention to detail ensures that all pets are well cared for.
Alyssa and her boyfriend Curtis make their home with their previously stray cats Teddy and Niko who enjoy eating and a beautiful Black Lab Dozer. They also share their home with a very spoilt turtle. Alyssa's smiling face is the first thing you will see at Island City Animal Hospital.
